Download DataFlow

Start with the sample study: 600 interviews with real-looking problems, no account needed. DataFlow updates itself after that.

Intel Macs, the Linux .deb, the Windows .msi and the checksums are on the release page.

On a Mac: open it the first time

DataFlow isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS asks you to confirm it once. After that it opens like any other app.

  1. Open the downloaded file and drag DataFlow into Applications.
  2. Open DataFlow. macOS says it can't check it for malicious software: click Done.
  3. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security, and next to the line about DataFlow click Open Anyway. Enter your password.
  4. Open DataFlow again and click Open.

On Windows

The installer is signed by ARCED International LLC, so Windows shows who made it. It installs for you alone, without asking for an administrator, and DataFlow updates itself from then on.

On Linux

Make the AppImage executable and run it: chmod +x DataFlow-linux-x86_64.AppImage. The AppImage updates itself; the .deb doesn't, so install the next one when it's out.

Check the download

Each release lists a SHA-256 checksum for every file (SHA256SUMS-windows.txt, SHA256SUMS-linux.txt), and the Linux list is signed with GPG. On Windows: certutil -hashfile <file> SHA256; on a Mac or Linux: shasum -a 256 <file>.

Updates

DataFlow checks for a new version when it starts and every six hours, downloads it in the background, and asks before it restarts. That check goes to GitHub, where the releases live, and carries no survey data. What leaves your computer.
